CAF implementation - Bureau of Metrology of Montenegro
About the organisation
The Bureau of Metrology was established by the Government of Montenegro on September 14, 2006. It is responsible for the realization, preservation, maintenance and improvement of the country’s measurement standards and establishment of metrological traceability in Montenegro. Its key functions include:
- Ensuring application of the system of legal units of measurement,
- Developing, maintaining, and enhancing Montenegro’s measurement standards,
- Ensuring metrological traceability for calibration, testing, and control laboratories,
- Organizing and overseeing calibration activities,
- Assessing the conformity of measuring instruments with metrological requirements,
- Providing expert evaluations for laboratory authorization in verifying measuring instruments,
- Representing Montenegro in international and regional metrology organizations to foster cooperation,
- Conducting metrological control and overseeing compliance with standards,
- Monitoring the control of precious metal articles.
The Bureau’s mission is to deliver high-quality services in legal and industrial metrology, strengthen trust in Montenegro’s measurement system, advance scientific metrology, and establish a robust national metrology framework.
The organisation itself is structured in five departments, namely:
- Department for Metrological Traceability and National Standards
- Department for Verification of Measuring Instruments
- Section for Precious Metals Articles
- Section for International Cooperation
- Service for Administration and Finance
Objectives and results
The following objectives were pursued with the implementation of the CAF in the Bureau of Metrology of Montenegro:
- Enable the Bureau of Metrology to implement CAF by themselves.
- Enabe the Bureau of Metrology to design future activities based on the results of the project, also linking it to other ReSPA RQMC activities (such as the PEF Procedure for obtaining the CAF label);
- Support for the application of the CAF at the organisation's headquarters;
Implemented activities
So far, the following activities were set up to implement the CAF program in the Bureau of Metrology of Montenegro:
- CAF Training – October 1st, 2024
- CAF Consensus Workshop – November 25th – 26th, 2024
- CAF Action Plan Workshop – December 13th, 2024
Based on the agreed CAF Improvement Plan, the improvement activities will be implemented by December 2026, under the supervision of the CAF Programme Manager of the Bureau of Metrology Naina Cuturic-Knezevic: naina.cuturic@metrologija.gov.me
